A Delicious Druze Meal with Bus 15

By Corey O’Brien and Gerrit Ilai

On Sunday, July 18, we visited a Druze community, a small religious group in the north of Israel. They are an Abrahamic monotheistic religion who consider Shuaib as an ancestor of the Druze and revere him as their spiritual founder and chief prophet. Israel is home to roughly 150,000 Druze people who mainly live in the mountainous areas of northern Israel. Upon arriving at the Druze village, we were seated outside and a community member told us about the group’s origins and what they believe in. Shortly after hearing their stories, we began to eat our meal. It was quite a typical Middle Eastern meal mixed with some Druze flair. It was a large spread ranging from pita, all the way to aleyigefm (a variant of dolmades), with a large range of vegetarian options. The food was incredible and it was made just as we walked up to serve ourselves. This was probably the most genuine food we have eaten yet. My favorite dish was most definitely the stuffed cabbage.
