My Experiences Through Mitzvah Corps Israel

By Max Holzer, Bus 10 Participant

The 2019 Mitzvah Corps Israel trip was amazing. We learned so much about the culture here, the variety in the population, about ourselves, and got to see awesome sights and try new foods. We went to eat lunch in a Druze house where we had traditional Druze food. We were then able to compare this meal to an Ethiopian lunch followed by an dance workshop. Being able to hear the stories of people ages 3 to 80 gave us all a broader perspective on the issues surrounding Israel. We got to learn about kibbutzim and all of the places we stayed were really nice and cool to learn about. The food was delicious! We might have had falafel for most of our meals out during the day, but it always tasted great. Throughout all of these experiences we were able to establish a strong community within our group and unit. As these relationships developed we felt comfortable to be ourselves and express individuality. This trip has made me feel a stronger connection to Israel and the Jewish community as a whole. Overall, this trip was a great choice and gave me lots of memories I’ll never forget.
